Between 1945 and 1948 the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased
125 Pullman heavyweight Parlor Cars and 590 Pullman heavyweight Sleeping Cars. While
building 1950 era models of these cars problems were encountered trying to find
information about the car name, trucks, air conditioning, roof ducts, and floor plan (12-1
or 6-6, etc.). This list is based on my research for the the 1948-50 information,
except as noted. |

It should be noted that the PRR referred to these cars as Standard Weight.
Today most people refer to these cars as heavyweights and
I will use this terminology in the list. |

This list of PRR owned Pullman built heavyweight Parlor
and Sleeping cars has been developed by using an Equipment Register for car names, using
'A Century of Pullman Cars - Vol. I - Alphabetical List' for plan and lot information, and
then using 'The Complete Roster of Heavyweight Pullman Cars' for car numbers,
rename information, and additional cars within the same lot. The air-conditioning
information is from the 1950 Pullman List. The Parlor car truck and paint information is
from the 1943 Pullman list; the Sleeping car information is from the 1938 Pullman list.
As maintenance was performed the trucks, air-conditioning, and plan could be
modified and pictures may show these differences. Pullmans purchased during W.W.II
and converted to coaches are included. Sleeping car numbers are Accounting Department
numbers and were not painted on the cars; Parlor car numbers were painted on the cars. |
