PRR Class ARA boxcar

General information:

The PRR Class ARA diagram represents a PROPOSED ARA design. A single car numbered 36985 was constructed and remained on the PRR roster until circa 1953. (The car is listed in the April 1952 ORER and is off list in the October 1953 ORER.) The operative word in all of this being "proposed." W.W.I and the Federalization of the RR's postponed the adoption of any standard. When the PRR version was rejected by the ARA, the PRR modified the design and the X29 was born. The 36985 carried the class designation ARA throughout its life. (from a posting to the Freight Cars List by Rich Orr)
