Ravenna is in the heart of the Western Reserve, that tract of land once belonging to Connecticut, which was sold in 1795-1796-the proceeds being largely devoted to the establishment of Western Reserve University, started at Hudson, but now located in Cleveland. It is noted for its many small lakes which make it a center for summer resorters. Its numerous industries manufacture excavating machinery, iron castings, toys, furniture frames, textiles and rubber products. East of the town is the World War II Government Ammunition Loading Depot.

For the twelve-month period ending August 31, 1957, the freight gross revenue of this agency was $1,127,780.

HUDSON, Ohio

Population 1,538. One of the earliest settlements in the Western Reserve, a typical New England town established in 1799 by David Hudson and his party from Connecticut. Western Reserve Academy, a boys' preparatory school, was founded here in 1826. Hudson was noted, during the Civil War days, as the chief headquarters for the Abolitionists in Ohio.

Two miles south of Hudson, about Y2 mile to the left of the railroad, is the site of the new Euclid Division plant of General Motors Corp. Grading and construction activities are now in progress.

The new Ohio Turnpike goes under our tracks at Highland Springs, just north of Hudson.

About 4½ miles north of here, on the right, at Twinsburg, is the Chrysler Corp., Ohio stamping plant. A more leisurely look at this plant will be obtained later in the day.

BEDFORD, Ohio

For the most part a residential suburb of Cleveland with a population of 9,105 (1950 census). However, industrialization and suburban residential developments in the area have pushed its population to an estimated 15,000 today. It was the site of a temporary settlement by Moravian missionaries in 1786 and surveyed as a town site in 1810 by the Connecticut Land Company. Archibald M. Willard, painter of "The Spirit of '76," was born here in 1836.

Freight gross revenue from this agency was $1,401,645 for the 12 month period ending August 31, 1957.

Immediately south of Bedford, at Walton Hills, is the Ford Motor Company's new metal stamping plant which will be visited by the Inspection Party later in the day.
